AKSHAYE TRITYA

In Sanskrit, the word Akshaya (अक्षय्य) means "never decreasing" in the sense of "prosperity, hope, joy, success", while Tritiya means "third phase of the moon".

Observed as a very auspicious day by Hindus, and Jains. It falls on the third tithi (lunar day) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Vaisakha.

In Sanskrit, the word Akshaya (अक्षय्य) means "never decreasing" in the sense of "prosperity, hope, joy, success", while Tritiya means "third phase of the moon".

Its auspicious to buy Gold, property, precious things etc on this day. Also, one can enter partnerships, or fix marriages, housewarming ceremonies etc. No Muhurta is seen on this day. Full day is auspicious.

The beauty of the Vedas and importance of each day is amazing. On this day the Sun, Moon and Ven are in their exaltation signs.  Ven exaltation in the 12th house in sign Pisces means be more philanthropic, donate to poor needy or old age homes, donate medicines (remember Shukracharya represents Sanjeevani vidya.)

It is on this Very day so many auspicious events happened:

  • Draupadi received Akshaya Patra from Lord Sri Krishna when the Pandavas were in exile and Draupadi was sad that she could not offer hospitality to the Saints, Guest, and Rishis.
  • Sudama visited Lord Krishna on this day.
  • Veda Vyasa began reciting Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha.
  • It’s the birthday of the sixth avatar of Lord Parshuram.
  • Lord Kubera got his designation as lord of wealth on this day.
  • Lord Rishabh Dev the 1st tirthankara of Jains broke his fast of one year on this day.
  • The temples of Gangotri and Yamnotri open on this day.

Fasting on this day, paying tribute to our ancestors, doing homas, reciting Sun, Moon, and Venus mantras, praying for overall happiness, peace and progress in life are recommended on this day.

P.S. Akshaya Tritiya falling on Monday with Moon in Rohini is considered most Auspicious.
